In Greece, history and culture are almost inescapable. Take a wrong turn down any street corner in Athens and you’re likely to find yourself in some ancient amphitheatre, get lost in Mykonos and you might accidentally wind up in the spot where Hercules fought and defeated giants. Truly, if these weathered cobblestone streets could talk, I’m sure they’d have a lot to answer for.

In the Cyclades, a vibrant island group in the Aegean Sea, the remnants of Bronze Age culture stand proud in their defiance of modern adaptation. The iconic whitewashed, cubiform houses, blue-domed churches and stunning beaches that have long transfixed travellers remain the lifeblood of the cosmopolitan region, vestiges of a simpler time.

Yet, just above the sun-bleached sands of Vroskopos Beach and the sparkling Mediterranean waters, history takes on a new perspective. It’s not quite Mount Olympus, but from this vantage point, you can almost see the entirety of Greece. Welcome to One&Only Kéa Island, the Cycladic sanctuary where old-world majesty meets modern luxury.

One&Only Kéa Island

Set on the stunning west coast of the historic Greek island, just 45 minutes from Athens, One&Only Kéa Island is a remarkable slice of Aegean life. Or, more aptly, a slither. The seasonal hotel is only open during the summer months, giving travellers just a brief window of opportunity to enjoy the property’s unique fusion of traditional Greek cultural immersion and contemporary luxury. For 2026, One&Only has spared no expense.

The third season is set to debut a series of new suites, culinary partnerships and wellness offerings. For the first time ever, the resort will open up its three- and four-bedroom Grand Seafront Villas for reservations, inviting travellers to “live the culture and spirit of Greek island life“. It’s a rare opportunity to step off the beaten track and into one of the oldest civilisations on Earth.

Authentic Cycladic Experiences

Now, it’s no surprise that Greece is a country of great historical significance, but Kéa Island does offer a rarity. Home to the ancient city of Karthea, which was founded in the 12th century BC, the island’s ruins remain largely untouched. A spoil of architectural riches, a walk here offers views of the ancient Temple of Apollo, a Temple to Athena and an ancient theatre, to name just a few.

As the self-proclaimed “gateway to the authentic soul of the island“, One&Only Kéa Island is tapping into the cultural heritage. The resort offers guests guided hikes with an expert archaeologist that reveal the secrets of the remarkable ruins, followed by a refreshing swim and a boat ride back to the resort. According to One&Only, the coastline holds its own underwater secrets, with world-class shipwrecks for scuba divers to explore.

For most travellers, however, Greece is best explored through food. The birthplace of favourites such as moussaka, souvlaki, and tzatziki, Greece’s contributions to the culinary world are arguably more influential than those it gave to the engineering community…or, you know, democracy.

With that in mind, One&Only’s popular ‘Shop, Cook & Eat’ experience returns, offering guests a full-day experience born from a decidedly authentic marketplace. The activity starts by sourcing ingredients from local producers and herbs from the resort’s grounds, before a chef-led cooking class that culminates in a feast at Atria restaurant.

This cultural immersion extends to the hilltop town of Ioulida, where art is integral to the island’s history. In the 1970s, Kéa was the home of artists and intellectual figures of the day, and guests can explore their influence at the Fassianos Atelier which is open for visits during the summer, and at artisanal stores dotted throughout the town with a resident curator.

According to One&Only, each of these experiences welcomes guests into the very heart of Greek island life, a Mediterranean lifestyle in its purest form. For those looking to indulge in a little rest and relaxation, however, the three- and four-bedroom villas are not to be outdone.

New Villas

Described as the pinnacle of coastal living, the new villas are designed for families and larger groups. Perched on the waterfront overlooking the spectacular Vroskopos Bay, the free-standing two-storey structures feature bedrooms with their own patios, en-suite bathrooms and outdoor spaces.

Floor-to-ceiling windows offer light-drenched living spaces that frame the stunning Aegean Sea, while a private infinity pool anchors the central outdoor space. More importantly, however, these villas are tailor-made for cultural experiences.

One&Only has confirmed that guests who book a Grand Seafront Villa will have access to a curated selection of complimentary wellness or culinary experiences, from wine tastings to cooking classes or personal training to yoga sessions. Guests can enjoy a sundowner experience at the resort’s lounge, while a complimentary four-course private dining experience at one of the resort’s venues will be up for grabs.
