About MADE Journal

What is MADE Journal?

MADE Journal is an independent publication dedicated to exploring the human side of creativity. It celebrates the messy, imperfect, and deeply personal process behind the act of making, shining a light not just on what people create, but why they create it. Through long-form interviews, original photography, and short documentary films, MADE Journal offers intimate portraits of makers, craftspeople, and creatives across disciplines, from watchmakers and distillers to architects and designers.

At its core, MADE Journal is an antidote to the speed and noise of modern media. In a world where stories are engineered for clicks and algorithms, this project embraces slow storytelling through pieces that invite readers to pause, reflect, and connect. Each feature is produced in-house, ensuring authenticity at every step, and crafted to feel timeless rather than disposable.

MADE Journal is an invitation to reconnect with authentic people creating real things. It is a space where process is celebrated over product and where stories live to be consumed slowly and with intent.

Founder and Owner

MADE Journal is founded and owned by award-winning editor and journalist, Nicholas Hall. As former Editor-in-Chief of Man of Many, Australia’s leading men’s lifestyle publication, Nick oversaw one of the country’s most successful independent media companies, shaping editorial strategy and delivering compelling content that drives both audience engagement and commercial growth. In 2022, he was recognised as National Editor of the Year by Mumbrella for his outstanding leadership in fostering cross-functional collaboration across editorial, social, marketing, and product teams.

A versatile lifestyle journalist, Nick specialises in long-form features spanning fashion, travel, entertainment, and design. He has hosted a series of short documentaries produced in partnership with brands such as Tissot and Bacardi, cultivating an engaging, highly informative, and audience-first style of journalism. In 2025, Nick founded MADE Journal as an extension of his work in multimedia and visual storytelling.
